Zorro and Ana Maria Verdugo

One of the most popular story arcs of the Walt Disney Zorro series took place in Monterrey. There, Diego de la Vega is introduced to Ana Maria Verdugo and becomes smitten with the dark-eyed beauty. However, Ana Maria's affections are not for Diego. Her heart is set on marrying his alter ego, the charming and daring El Zorro. The young caballero was not to be detoured by this slight obsticle. For Diego loved Ana Maria so much that he planned to give up being Zorro. Only the intervention of his father, Don Alejandro, prevented him from revealing his identity and accepting the Governor’s offer of amnesty, which would have allowed him the freedom to marry her and live a normal life. Zorro’s choice to continue as an outlaw, protecting the people of California rather than marrying her, left her disappointed and heartbroken. Now, several months later, the masked protector of California and Ana Maria have another encounter. Will Zorro have a change of heart? Will sparks fly between them again? Or will their love die? Find out — when Zorro and Ana Maria meet in the pages of ZORRO Swordplay and Romance, the new book from Bold Venture Press. Writen by Daryl McCullough and illustrated by Nestor Taylor. *Pictures shown not in the book. On sale at Bold Venture Press and on Amazon

ZORRO Rides For Justice Children's Picture Book

The Legend Begins Again as ZORRO Rides For Justice in the new Zorro children's picture book available from Bold Venture Press on March 31, 2023. Based on the New World Zorro series that starred Duncan Regehr, Patrice Martinez, John G. Hertzler, James Victor, Henry Darrow, Juan Diego Botto, Michael Tylo, and Efrem Zimbalist Jr.

In the early 1800s, California was still under Spanish rule. Some military commanders plundered and won riches at the expense of peace-loving settlers. Against these agents of injustice, the settlers were powerless — until one man’s courage stirred the hearts of Californians. He alone gave them the spirit to resist tyranny. That man was Zorro!

Don Diego de la Vega, son of a wealthy landowner, returns to Alta California to find Los Angeles citizens being crushed by oppression. Oppression from the money-hungry Alcalde Luis Ramon; oppression from the sadistic Capitán de Soto; oppression from the inept Sergeant Mendoza. When seizing money and land no longer satisfies him, Ramon begins selling the poor citizens into slavery to fill his coffers. Then, from out of the night, a hero in black appears to clash blades with the oppressors — Señor Zorro, whose sword is a flame to right every wrong!

Whether you're young or young at heart. . . this Zorro story will appeal to all who love Zorro. Whether you're a New World Zorro fan, a Disney Zorro fan, or just love Zorro, you'll find this story to be fun and entertaining. Zorro Rides For Justice is a delightful Zorro adventure.

Bullying creates, in some people, a desire to crush it. Often a champion arises - sometimes an imaginary one - whether it be a group of avengers or one superhero. In the pueblo of Los Angeles, California, nearly 200 years ago, a bad behavior had crept in - bullying began.

Then - out of the mystery of the unknown - appeared a boy who promised himself when he grew up, he would always fight the bullies with clever ways and not be a bully himself. He grew up to fight all injustice. He inspired the people to rise up to resist cruelty.

That man became the first masked superhero... Zorro!
